Drivers in the Auburndale, Winter Haven, and Lakeland areas of Florida might not realize that winterizing an exotic auto or sports car, or any car, is necessary in the warm, sunny climate of Florida. After all, many of you have moved here from the frozen tundra up north (like Wisconsin!) and you think that because you no longer have to shovel snow or put chains on your tires, you no longer need to winterize your vehicle. Well, that’s not exactly true.
If you’ve arrived only recently, there might be road grime or even salt from northern roads still on your vehicle, especially on the underside where you can’t see what’s there. So it goes without saying that a good wash is one of the best things you can do to protect the life of your car. You might need to change the oil, too, even if you think you could wait a few thousand miles according to your old schedule. But with warmer temperatures in Florida, you should consider changing the oil now and moving to a heavier-weight oil.
Some of you have lived here all your life but might be planning a trip “up north” this year to see family or friends for the holidays. Make sure that your vehicle’s battery is good to go, because cold weather is hard on a battery that is already weak. Better to replace it now than to end up stranded by the side of the road in a northern blizzard! Need more than a battery? Maybe you want to check out purchasing a whole new or pre-owned car near Winter Haven to take your winter drives.
